So there is no guessing what January is all about!
The fun and festivities are well and truly over and everyone seems to be diving straight into the latest diet, cleanse or detox. Going from over indulging, crazy drinking and mince pie mania to a very strict diet or detox is pushing the body from one extreme to another and it can be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride too.
So some questions you really have to ask yourself first are….
Is my body ready for this?
Is my mind ready for this?
And most importantly.. Is it sustainable?
And while we are searching the net and magazines for the magic formula we seem to be forgetting something extremely important…
Our body has its own extraordinary internal detoxification system and the three crucial organs involved in detoxifying and cleansing are:-
♦ THE LIVER. This is your first line of defense against toxins. It acts like a filter in preventing toxic substances contained in food ect from passing into your blood stream.
♦ THE COLON. You want to keep your colon moving regularly since its main roll is to flush out toxic chemicals before they an do harm.
♦ YOUR KIDNEYS. Like clockwork your kidneys are constantly filtering your blood and getting rid of toxins from your urine.
For any kind of detox or diet to really work you need to maintain these three key organs and nourish them with the right nutrients.
I like to look at it as a bit of fine tuning to keep everything running smoothly, be kind to them and they will keep you in tip top shape and your much more likely to get better results in whatever regime you’ve embarked on. And when I’m looking to up my game a bit to get results my first port of call is always…
Spirulina is the ultimate natural nutritional supplement.
It contains the most complete source of nutrients found in any single food.
“Spirulina belongs to an ancient class of single-celled, blue-green spiral algae. It’s a fresh water growing, alkaline environment, microscopic algae that has been living on the planet since the appearance of life on earth. It is clear that ancient algae and plankton life-forms from earths lakes and oceans provide the fundamental nutrient and food sources for all life”.~ David Wolfe
It has long been known that spirulina accelerates detoxification especially during fasting as spirulina has a unique combination of phytonutrients that can help cleanse our bodies. Various studies have shown the effectiveness of micro-algae in weight loss. Spirulina on its own will not bring about weight loss, but it does provide the right conditions within the body to achieve this. So if your diet’s not working maybe its time to bring in SPIRULINA♥
Even if your not on a diet, cleanse or detox I would highly recommend taking spirulina for your general health and wellbeing, it contains an astounding array of nutrients, including chlorophyll, protein, vitamins, major minerals, trace minerals, essential fatty acids, nucleic acids (RNA and DNA), polysaccharides and a vast spectrum of antioxidants. It is so rich in nutrition that it is believed by some that you could live alone on Spirulina for quite some time! (please don’t try it though!)
It usually comes in powder or tablet form and is so easy to take, you can also add to your juice or smoothies.
Get Spirulina in your life♥
Its magnificent…its the bomb!
Green tea is not just one of the healthiest drinks on the planet, now many studies show that green tea can also be used as an aid to help loose weight as it contains bioactive substances that can make you burn more calories, even when your resting.
But have you heard of MATCHA…….
Japanese Matcha is green tea leaves which have been ground down to form a fine powder. When brewing green tea leaves you are only consuming a fraction of the goodness as the majority actually remains unused and trapped in the leaves. So when you drink Matcha powder you are consuming the whole leaf with its powerful arsenal of vitimins, minerals, anti-oxidants and amino acids.
One glass of Matcha is the equivalent of ten glasses of green tea in terms of its nutritional value and antioxidant content.
Matcha has been known for centuries for its energy boosting, mind focusing, calorie burning and metabolism enhancing properties and a great addition to a weight loss programme as it attacks the problem from both sides.
A little history….
It has been drunk as part of the Japanese tea ceremony for nine hundred years and used by Buddhist monks to keep them alert and focused during long days of meditation. Samurai warriors would drink matcha before going into battle to give them strength and stamina.
Drinking matcha tea can increase thermogenesis (the bodies own rate of burning calories) from a normal 8-10% of daily expenditure, to between 35-43% of daily expenditure. So if your trying to shift those few extra pounds maybe its time to bring in the matcha!
Its so easy to add to your daily regime, you just add a quarter of a teaspoon to your cup and add warm water. Traditionally you would use a Wisk to mix it but a spoon is fine.
The biggest buzz I have found around Matcha in recent years is that it is an antioxidant powerhouse. But what really caught my eye was it contains a special set of organic compounds called Catechins. Among antioxidants Catechins are the most potent and beneficial. One specific Catechin called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg) makes up 60% of the Catechins in Matcha green tea. Out of all the antioxidants EGCg is most widely recognised for its cancer fighting properties. Scientists have found that Matcha contains over one hundred times more EGCg than any other tea on the market! Amazing♥
Another great little tip to aid weight loss is to add cayenne pepper to warm lemon water.
As I wrote in a recent blog post there are huge health benefits of drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning as it aids the bodies detoxification process. By adding cayenne pepper you increase the bodies temperature and kick start your metabolism which will helps you lose weight over time.
Lemon juice and cayenne pepper both have anti fungal, immune boosting and detoxifying properties and this drink is also a great little energy booster.
It’s another easy one. Just sprinkle half a teaspoon over your lemon water, give it a good stir, then drink and let the magic happen!
So whatever your up to this month regarding your health please make sure your being kind. Use these winter months to nourish and nurture not just your body but your mind and soul too, and even if your not dieting or detoxing you can use these three tips for your general health and wellbeing.♥
