Turmeric has been a staple of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine for ever!tumeric

Back in the day the old herbals of Europe had very little interest in turmeric, Marco Polo refered to it as “ Indian saffron used for just dying cloth”.

They were completely unaware of the huge healing potential of turmeric which was well known to the Asian herbalists.

But eventually they woke up and realised that turmeric was a true healer……

Today scientific studies on turmeric number in the thousands.

It has been hailed “the most potent natural anti-inflammatory  available” and scientists are stating that turmeric’s powerful antioxidant properties fight cancer-causing free radicals, reducing and preventing some of the damage they can cause. It seems to be constantly under the microscope, even very early  studies indicated that curcumin, the main component in turmeric, may help or treat several types of cancer including prostate, skin and colon.

But today its all about your skin, and how turmeric can slow down the aging process, calm inflammation, get rid of spots and give you that beautiful summer GLOW♥ 

Turmeric beauty masks have been used across Asia for centuries, and in south Asia they are an integral part of the brides wedding preparations to make her look spotless and glamorous on her big day.IMG_1522[1]

I hate to admit it but I have spent a fortune on face masks in the past. Home made skin care never really excited me. I always thought big price tag big results.  But as I’m  slowly becoming a bit of a domestic alchemist, I  can honestly say that this mask rocks…..and its so simple. tumeric mask

You will need..

1 teaspoon of turmeric

♥ 1 teaspoon of honey

♥ 1 teaspoon bio yogurt

(This is usually enough for two applications. Keep left over mask covered and in the fridge,  it should last for three days)

Little tip…add a few drops of  tea tree essential oil for acne or a teaspoon of lemon juice for oily skin. 


Mix all the ingredience together, make sure its a nice consistency not to runny, you don’t want turmeric running down your face, trust me!

 Then apply it to a cleansed face and leave it on for about 15 min. 

Warning…Turmeric can stain, so make sure you use and old towel when you dry your face, and I always use a good toner like witch hazel or rose water to get rid of any traces of the mask.

The benefits of this mask…

It will brighten the skin, soften lines and wrinkles, moisturize and exfoliate, ease redness and inflammation and leave you with a lovely Glow.

Anti-aging Smoothie recipe

tumeric smoothie Sip yourself gorgeous with this beautifying smoothie!

You will need..

♥ 1 cup of coconut milk (or milk of your choice)

1/2 cup of frozen pineapple

♥ 1 chopped frozen banana

♥ 1 tbs of coconut oil

♥ 1 tsp of turmeric

♥ 1 tbs chia seeds

♥ 1/2 tsp cinnamon

♥ 1/2 tsp of ginger

Blend all the ingredients together and get stuck in!

I’m a big fan of turmeric smoothies at the moment. The coconut oil is rich in healthy fats which helps build collagen to keep your complexion glowing, plus turmeric is an anti-inflammatory which helps with anti-aging.      

 Interesting fact…. turmeric is fat soluble which means it doesn’t fully dissolve unless its in fat. When it doesn’t dissolve properly the curcumin  in turmeric has a tough time getting into the gut, which is where most of your immune system is (80% actually!) . That is why the coconut oil and  coconut milk are the key components in this smoothie recipe because they contain healthy fats making the curcumin more bioavailable for the body to absorb.tumeric
