Early tranquility creates the blue print for success –

I have a huge fascination  with morning routines.

My curiosity is endless as to what the most successful people on the planet do every morning to set themselves up for success.

  • The great Tony Robbins meditates,  jumps into a cold plunge, then visualises how he wants his day to play out.
  • Queen Oprah says ‘thank you’ and acknowledges how grateful she is to be alive.
  • His Holiness the Dalai Lama wakes up at 3am, has a shower, the begins the day with prayers, meditations and prostrations until 5am
  • Beyonce talks to herself lovingly – embracing all her flaws
  • And Steve Jobs would look in the mirror and ask himself “If today was the last day of my life, would I be happy with what I’m about to do today”.

What I have found is that most successful people – or people that seem to be doing life quite well – don’t pick up their phones – check emails – take calls – or engage in anyone else’s stuff  until they have cultivated calm,  practiced mediation, moved their body, tucked in to a healthy brekkie, nourished their body – and got fully aligned and with their soul.

My mornings BC ( before cancer) where shocking!

I would get up late – yup, that snooze button would get a good hammering!!

The first thing that would hit my system was a strong – sweet milky latte.

The first thing I would look at was the news – followed by social media scrolling session!! Sending me straight into reactive mode.

Then a dash to get to work and arrive by the skin of my teeth!! A fried egg sandwich was pretty much a standard breakfast, there was absolutely no nurture, nourishment or any kind of peace and tranquillity. Even reading this gives me slight anxiety, I was a functioning hot mess!!!

So after my diagnosis and my path to wellness began I realised that my mornings where key, and very, very sacred.

Carving out time to cultivate my morning practise has been top priority, a non-negotiable –  and a complete game changer!!

It has evolved and taken many different shapes and forms over the years, but it will always involve..

  • A cold shower and body brush
  • Movement – yoga, stretching, rebounding
  • Meditation and breathe work
  • Gratitude
  • Nourishing breakfast

I have a short version and a longer version depending how much time I have in the morning – but whatever my time canvas is, these five things always get done, plus I’m always adding new things to the mix!

My days play out so much better now –  but more than anything I feel completely aligned with my soul after my morning practise – and in a much better space to see what the universe will surprise me with each day!

So now It’s over to you.

Write down what you need to do to make some time to create a beautiful nourishing morning practise, whatever time frame you have…..even if it means getting up 20 min early before any chaos starts in your household!!!

Create space, cultivate some tranquility, check in with your soul, say affirmations, move – and remember all the things you are truly grateful for.

Don’t ever feel guilty doing what is best for you, always put your self care at the top of your list!

And finally here are some beautiful words to start off your day from the Dalai Lama..

Every day as you wake up, think that I am fortunate to be alive. I have a precious human life, and I am not going waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand myself out to others, to achieve enlightenment for all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.
