They have been hailed by many nutritional experts as the PINNNACLE SUPERFOOD and without a doubt chia seeds are definitely worthy of that title.
When I first read about their healing and medicinal properties I knew I had to have them in my life.
I LOVE CHIA SEEDS ♥
They are one of the healthiest foods on the planet and are a powerhouse of nutrition which can offer HUGE benefits to the body and brain. And the best thing is…… they are one of the easiest things you can add to your diet.
But first a little story..
For centuries this tiny seed was used as a staple food by the Indians of the south-west and Mexico. Known as the running food, its use as a high energy endurance food has been recorded as far back as the ancient Aztecs. It was said the Aztec warriors subsisted on the chia seeds during conquests, they also considered chia seeds so valuable that it was used as a form of currency. The Indians of the south-west would eat as little as a tea-spoon full when going on a twenty-four hour forced march and when running from the Colorado river to the Californian coast to trade turquoise for seashells they would only bring chia seeds for nourishment.
So you may have gathered by now they are a HIGH ENERGY FOOD. Athletes use them because of the prolonged sustained release of energy, they also contain twice the amount of potassium than bananas. I was amazed once I started eating chia seeds how much my energy levels had increased. They hold a very high place in my pantry, but there’s so much more..
Chia is a complete source of protein with all the essential amino acids (19 amino acids in total) in appropriate balance. Protein is the most weight loss friendly macronutrient and can help reduce appetite and cravings. That’s why chia is great if you want to lose a few pounds, they make you feel fuller for longer.
Chia seeds are the richest source of Omega-3 and 6 (way more than salmon) which helps brain function, brighten our mood and also keep our nervous system intact. Omega oils are important for vitamin assimilation, and for the health of your vital organs, especially the thyroid and skin cells.
Eating chia daily will greatly aid your regularity and keep everything ticking over well in that department! They sweep out the old debris in your intestines helping to detoxify your system naturally.
For diabetics, chia seeds can play an important role in regulating insulin levels. They reduce insulin resistance and decrease abnormally high levels of insulin in the blood.
They have extremely high antioxidant levels, way more than blueberries.
Daily use of chia seeds over time has been reported to reduce joint pain and inflammation.
They contain more calcium than milk, more iron that spinach and are loaded with phosphorus, zinc, copper, boron, magnesium, manganese, B and C vitamins
They have also been said to help with constipation, healing wounds, prostate problems, thyroid disorders, digestive problems, PMS, cholesterol, IBS, acid reflux, celiac disease and weight loss.
So are you in ?
The recommended dose is one and a half table spoons a day and they can be eaten in so many ways. You can sprinkle them on cereal, salads, yogurt, add them to vegetables, rice dishes whatever you fancy, the great thing about chia seeds is that they don’t taste of anything. Soaking them in juice or water to make a gel is my favourite way of eating them , I usually just add them to my morning smoothie (recipe soon to come). And if your on the go you can just take a quick spoonful of the gel straight out the jar. I’m in the process of perfecting a delicious chia pudding that will be up on the blog soon.
Here’s how to make a quick Chia Gel
I always check mine after about twenty minutes just to make sure its a nice smooth gel easy to scoop out, if not I always add a bit more water. The best place to store your chia gel is in the fridge
TAKE ACTION NOW and put chia seeds right at the top of your shopping list and which ever way you choose to consume them it will dramatically boost the nutritional value of that meal, you will also be taking your health up quite a few notches and have increased energy levels so you can take on the world just like an Aztec warrior!!
I hope you fall in love with them as much as I have♥
